I started my first legal job at a teeny tiny law firm just off the main street of Courtenay, there was one Lawyer, myself and the oldest legal assistant in history, Ella was two years old and Brock and I were doing our best to parent her while still being parented ourselves . The practice was primarily criminal based, although interesting it made me wary of every person that came in 2 inches of me, I spent hours reading files about people I knew and it made me awkward and uncomfortable. Six months later I moved to Calgary with exactly six months of criminal law and a week or two of real estate law experience and high hopes, Ella was three. I got my first job at Scott Hall LLP a middle sized firm in Eau Claire as a temp and I loved every second of it. I went on to a permanent job at a larger firm in what was the highest tower in Calgary working for two lawyers doing IP work. My last student loan payment is fast approaching and I am no longer working at a law firm, Ella is seven and finished her last day of grade one, we’ve added Oliver, gotten married, bought our own house, and no longer need our parents to give us the answer. I have loved everyday in-between.
