A HOT SUMMER | CALGARY MATERNITY PHOTOGRAPHER

A hot summer afternoon sitting in the basement of her Dad’s house on the river, a beer mug of water, two pink razors and some shaving gel that fluffed up once sprayed onto your hands we shaved our legs and chatted about everything thats important when your twelve going on twenty.

Another hot summer afternoon, 14 years later, pregnant with our son, I ran into her at a children’s festival on a visit home.  She held her step daughters hand tight, and we chatted this time about new babies, impending wedding days, and jobs.  I watched the way her step daughter looked at her, spoke to her and held her hand back.  She was spilling love for her.  We said our goodbyes and walked off in opposite directions and I couldn’t help but think she was so patient, so loving with her step daughter. She was a Mother and she was so good at it.

4 years later we met on a hot summer afternoon and I photographed her first baby bump and I couldn’t help but think back to that afternoon in her Dad’s basement by the river when there was nothing else to do but shave our legs and chat about boys.

(I have edited these on my laptop which is harder to see on! just incase something looks funny:))
